Accommodation    Gavrilov-Possad region was formed in 1929 by the Decree of Presidium VTSIK from small rural districts and villages of Yuriev-Posky, Vladimirsky and Teikovsky regions. The population of the region is 22,2 thousand people including the town population of 12,1 thousand people. The Slavs began to inhabit modern territory in IX-XII centuries.
    The town of Gavrilov Possad is mentioned as village Gavrilovsaya in the Treaty of the great Moscow prince Vassily Vassilievich II the Tiomnyi (the Blind) with the prince Galitsky Dmitry Shemiaka and others in 1434. In 1789 Gavrilovskaya sloboda (a large village) was renamed in Possad (suburb) by the edict of Empress Catherine II, it uses town rights by the administrative rule.
    Since then the former palace settlement was named Gavrilovsky Possad. In 1899 there were 2,600 people in it, and 8 streets, sixty stone and 200 wooden buildings, 3 orthodox churches, 2 year school of the Ministry of Public Education, zemsky school for women, almshouse, a library, a bookshop, a stud farm of state horse breeding. A part of the citizens worked on print works, the others were busy in buying and resale of flex transported from near by villages, weaving goods and other handicraft wares.
    The history of Gavrilov Possad and the surrounding villages was connected with royal horse breeding farm. This farm was first mentioned in Cadastres of Gavrilovskaya sloboda in 1632-1633.
    Among the famous people of the region are: Professor Zamin A.I. - the founder of blacksmith’s work in Russia, Honored teacher Shoumelovskaya T.I., Peoples Artist of the USSR Zhiltsov A.I.
